Urban Detox Club Giveaway | Fitness NYC

They call themselves the anti-juice cleanse, they say you can eat real food and detox too. They are a detox for life for people with a life. ?It?s the Urban Detox Club, a company that provides nutrition consultation and now a super gourmet vegan food delivery program for those who want to make nutritional changes that last for more than three days or a week. ?The Urban Detox ?Club Program is ?a marathon not a sprint, ?UDC is not about quick fixes. it?s about getting the tools and knowledge to create a LASTING healthy lifestyle that will serve you forever.

Through Skype, email and phone, founders and health coaches ?Rebecca Sadek and Jen Morris give their clients those tools, meal plans (beginning with a 14 day detox) and recipes paired with ?constant support strategies for navigating menus at restaurants, tackling ?willpower breakdowns or staying on track after a seriously stressful day. ?Basically, they?ll help you stay the healthy course even when life gets in the way<?the hardest part of eating healthy IMO!

Last week I had the chance to attend a preview of their newest program Urban Detox Club Deluxe, and boy was it good. This program adds to their original program by adding a week of meal delivery, so the program includes:

 • Detailed detox guidelines (meal plans, recipes, shopping list)
 • Personal Detox Coach to guide you through the entire process
 • Two coaching phone calls pre and post-detox?(30-minutes each)
 • Email support from your Coach?throughout your program
 • 7 days of fresh, organic meals delivered to your home (lunch, dinner, snack)<?for Club Luxe
 • Complete set of all natural detox products and supplements designed to clean up your digestion and nourish your body
 • Self-care and fitness guidelines
 • Daily emails designed to educate,?motivate, and keep you entertained

So let?s talk food. ?It?s not boring diet food, it?s upscale gourmet vegan. I felt like I was eating at Pure Food and Wine! ?We started with a spiced moroccan butternut squash hummus and credit:

(thank you to Ashley for lending me her photos!)

This was followed with a spinach, broccoli and spring onion soup with lemon gremolata served warm.

Yum, the flavor was strong, fresh and vibrant. ?You knew it was green, but it was also comforting. ?While we ate, we really got to know Jen and Rebecca, and I have to say they rock. I love that they were just trying to find the best way to feel healthy, energized and awesome ten years ago and now they have taken that knowledge and created an amazing program for people who want to live a healthy clean lifestyle?and enjoy it too.

Next up was a kale salad with homemade bacon tempeh with grilled onion and dijon mustard vinaigrette.

I loved the slightly crunchy wilted kale with the tender onion, and of course, anything with beets. ?In case your curious, in the delivery program, this salad would be the main course of your lunch served in around a 3 cup portion-2 kale, 1 toppings.

Next up was by far my favorite course-Creamy Almond Pad Thai Spaghetti Squash. I can?t even describe how good this was. ?Easily the best pad thai I?ve ever had.

Everyone went crazy for this, the spaghetti squash is a genius idea for a veggie based pad thai, it gives the perfect texture.

Can?t forget dessert: ginger chickpea blondes with lemon coconut marmalade and cacao black bean brownies with berry jam.

Dense and delicious.

It was definitely a fine dining experience, elevating meal delivery to new heights for sure.

Kevin Federline Blames Errant Golf Balls For Trashed Rental Property

Kevin Federline is being sued for damage he allegedly caused to a home he used to rent, which he in turn blames on flying golf balls and general wear and tear.

His former landlord, Joseph Malek, wants $110,000 in damages from the former Mr. Britney Spears for back rent and damage to the Tarzana, Calif., home.

Federline insists the "damages to the home were due to normal wear and tear, and other damages were caused by golf balls hitting the property."

Broken windows, we're guessing.

Fedex Man

Kevin Federline: Sued for being a deadbeat dirtball.

More significantly, Federline claims he struck an oral agreement with Malek back in 2009 in which he coughed up $60,000 to cover any back rent.

He also says he agreed to let his former landlord keep his entire security deposit, and that this "acts as full satisfaction and discharge of disputes."

As a result of the new lawsuit K-Fed is seeking recovery of his attorney's fees, statutory damages and twice the amount of his security deposit.

Jared Loughner expected to plead guilty in Tucson shootings

Loughner was declared unfit to stand trial after the 2011 Arizona rampage that killed six people and wounded 13, including Gabrielle Giffords. A reported plea bargain could mean a life sentence.

By Amanda Paulson / August 6, 2012

Defendant Jared Loughner sits with his head in his hands during a competency hearing in federal court on May 25, 2011, in Tucson, Ariz. as shown in this artists' rendering. Loughner was deemed by a federal judge to be incompetent to stand trial at that time. Since then, he has taken forcible medication and is expected to be found competent to stand trial on Tuesday.

A year and a half after the Arizona shooting rampage that killed six people and wounded 13, including then-Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, the suspected shooter is reportedly set to enter a plea bargain.

At a hearing Tuesday, a court-appointed psychiatrist is expected to testify that Jared Lee Loughner is mentally competent to enter a plea. Assuming the judge accepts that judgement, Mr. Loughner would then plead guilty to murder and attempted murder, in exchange for a life sentence.

In March 2011, Loughner pleaded not guilty to 49 federal charges from the shooting, which occurred at a January political event with Congresswoman Giffords outside a Tucson supermarket.

US District Judge Alan Burns, who is presiding over the case, issued a scheduling order Monday that confirms a plea deal has been reached.

Mary Stoddard, whose husband, Dorwan, was killed in the shooting, told the Associated Press that she was "just thrilled" at the news, and said she had been hoping for a plea bargain to avoid a lengthy trial.

?I don?t really want the death penalty. I would love to see him either put in a mental institution or life in prison with no parole," Ms. Stoddard told the AP. Stoddard was wounded in the shooting, but recovered.

In the attack, Giffords, initially reported dead by some news outlets, was severely wounded. She has undergone intensive speech and physical therapy in Houston, which has allowed her to recover far better than anyone expected, but opted to resign from Congress this past January. Ron Barber, a Giffords staffer who was also wounded in the Tucson shooting, won her seat in a special election in June.

Loughner, who suffers from schizophrenia, was previously deemed unfit to stand trial. He has been held at a federal medical center in Missouri, where he has been forcibly medicated, which his lawyers have fought.

Assuming the judge Tuesday accepts the psychiatrist ruling that Loughner is competent, and satisfies himself through questioning that his plea is "knowing and voluntary," then sentencing would be determined later at another hearing.

Home Improvement Is The Best Investment You Can Make. Here's ...

To update the appearance of your basement, opt for easily installed modular flooring ? the durable carpeting is suitable for even the heaviest traffic, and will make the area more inviting by ensuring the floors are not ice-cold. Many companies offer affordable traction-backed carpeting squares in a range of colors and patterns. These can be laid directly over concrete with no advance preparation.

Do not panic if you scuff the corner of a wooden piece of furniture, trim or cabinetry. Instead, grab your iron and a damp napkin. Wet the damaged corner lightly, then apply the heated iron to restore the finished color and grain of the wood to the area that was scratched.

Replace your old curtains with new ones. A faded set of curtains will take away from the look of the entire space. By eliminating them you will add a dramatic feel to your room without having to go through all of the work of painting the room. It is an affordable and easy way to get a new look.

Adding a new room to your house can recoup from fifty to eighty percent of it?s cost in increased home value, so it?s definitely worth the expenditure. Consider adding a bedroom if your house only has one or two, or a conservatory off your kitchen so you can enjoy your morning coffee in leisure.

If you?re tired of running out of hot water, consider getting a tankless water heater. Tankless heaters give you hot water only as you need it, without having to have a holding tank. By only heating the water you?ll immediately use, you can also save money on energy. They also take up much less room than traditional tank heaters.

When it comes to home improvement, it is important to realize that the more customized your have, the less likely it will be appreciated by your future buyers. If you are concerned about the resale value of your house, it is important to appeal to the general public as opposed to your own tastes.

Install smoke detectors in every room of the house. Smoke detectors are cheap, and they can save your family?s life in the event of a fire. All you need for installation in most cases is a screwdriver. At a bare minimum, make sure you put one in the kitchen and one near the door of every bedroom.

Considering the cost of hiring a plumber, you will probably want to do some of the simpler plumbing tasks yourself. An essential tool is the pipe wrench. It is adjustable, so it can fit a pipe perfectly, and it provides an excellent grip and leverage. This one tool will more than pay for itself.

Consider buying second hand treasures from local companies that recycle items pulled from houses either recently demolished or renovated. These items are often absolutely gorgeous and in excellent shape; usually the previous owners? tastes changed or the items no longer fit aesthetically. You may even choose to base your new designs around these recovered treasures!

When making home improvements, plan for the worst. If you?re working in a basement or bathroom, plan and budget for mold removal. If you?re pulling down the walls in an old house plan to find knob and tube wiring.

When painting your bathroom, kitchen, or other area that sees lots of moisture (or kids? hands), choose a semi-gloss or high-gloss paint. Unlike flat (matte) paints, glossy surfaces are easier to wipe clean and are less likely to show spots when exposed to moisture from steamy showers or boiling pots.

Interior paint finishes come in a number of textures. For ordinary homeowners there is no reason to select a texture rougher than ?eggshell? or ?orange peel.? In years gone by much rougher textures (like ?popcorn?) were used for walls and ceilings in order to provide visual interest and dampen sound. These textures proved easy to damage and hard to clean, and so fell out of common use.

Be aware of the type of product you are using to clean out stubborn clogs. Not all cleaners are made the same and some are extremely harsh. Avoid using crystallized drain cleaners as they can stick to your pipes and cause continuous damage. Make sure you use a drain cleaner that is compatible with your septic tank.

Be sure you have proper tools for the jobs you wish to do. It is fairly common to have a variety of household tools, but if you run out of painter?s tape, your living room may not come out as pristine as you hoped. Keep a stock on items you may need, and always pick up more when needed.

Even if you have done some home improvement projects in the past and received great results, you want to know the secret tips and advice that lies within the world of home improvement. You can never learn too much as there is always a strategy or technique you haven?t considered. The advice in this article could be a great stepping stone for learning a lot more.

Budget Minded Home Improvements

Article by James Brown

Winter provides the right atmosphere for budget minded home improvements to be finished. This is especially true for people that live in parts of the country where snow falls are deep and increasingly frequent during the period January to March of each year. In this environment, people rarely venture outside but still want to do things around the home to make it look nice, but not home improvement projects that will run up costs.

Winters are long in the northern States and budget minded people are willing to keep busy by doing small improvements to the interior spaces in the home as long as the right tools are in the house. Painting the interior walls in a home is a good way to stay busy and make noticeable improvements to the home without overextending the family budget. Some people might watch television to learn the right techniques for applying interior paints to walls throughout the home.

Those home improvement shows will provide snowbound people with all the information they need to get small home improvement projects finished fast and correct the first time around. Some of interior walls being repaired or painted during the winter might have surfaces that are textured and very rough in appearance. The quality of the work done many years before might have caused some chipping in odd places that are unattractive and some holes might need to be patched.

The family might need to study up on the best way to cover these surfaces while not applying texture to trim that surrounds that particular room at the top and bottom of the wall that they will be working on. Some homeowners use internet access to read home improvement books at the city library. Those books will give homeowners enough confidence to tackle such a budget minded home improvement project.

Patching holes is a delicate chore but can be more economical than home improvements that require the entire wall to be removed, rebuilt, and then repainted. Patching textured walls is relatively simple if the homeowner has sponges and a repair kit that includes a texture patch on hand. The budget minded home improvement specialist will always keep a good supply of paint on hand for those home improvement projects that take place in winter. That paint will save the day when the time comes to make the texture patterns blend in with the existing paint.

Other budget minded home improvement projects will keep someone busy for a few days at least. The kitchen sink hardware might need to be replaced and a sprayer attachment can be installed at the same time to give the sink a more finished appearance. The family budget will benefit greatly from the savings on water and time. Families will be able to wash dishes, rinse, and put them away in less time, which means lights will not burn in the kitchen for extended periods as they have in the past. The budget minded home improvements will save the family money and create a more enjoyable space for people to live in and entertain friends.
