NBA scores: Suns fall to Pacers as rest of division wins

The Suns continue to struggle, and they lost ground to everyone this week.

The Phoenix Suns dropped their fourth straight game in a 97-91 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Friday night. The Suns could not overcome a 14-point halftime deficit. George Hill led all scorers with 22 points for Indiana. Sebastian Telfair paced Phoenix with 19 points on 8-of-20 shooting.

While the Suns were losing, the rest of the Pacific Division was winning. The Clippers extended their winning streak to 17 with a 116-114 victory over the Jazz in Salt Lake City. Los Angeles grabbed the league's best record with the win, as Chris Paul tallied 29 points and six assists.

The Lakers got back to .500 by beating the Blazers, 104-87, on Friday. The stars were out for the Lakers, as Kobe Bryant led all scorers with 27, Dwight Howard grabbed 14 rebounds and Steve Nash dished out 10 assists.

The Northern California teams had success this week as well. The Warriors continued their strong start against the Sixers, winning 96-89. Sacramento upset one of the East's top teams by taking down the Knicks, 106-105, at home.

(AP) ? Fiscal cliff talks at a partisan standoff, President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner swapped barbed political charges on Wednesday yet carefully left room for further negotiations on an elusive deal to head off year-end tax increases and spending cuts that threaten the national economy.

Republicans should "peel off the war paint" and take the deal he's offering, Obama said sharply at the White House. He buttressed his case by noting he had won re-election with a call for higher taxes on the wealthy, then added pointedly that the nation aches for conciliation, not a contest of ideologies, after last week's mass murder at a Connecticut elementary school.

But he drew a quick retort from Boehner when the White House threatened to veto a fallback bill drafted by House Republicans that would prevent tax increases for all but million-dollar earners. The president will bear responsibility for "the largest tax increase in history" if he makes good on that threat, the Ohio Republican declared.

In fact, it's unlikely the legislation will get that far, as divided government careens into the final few days of a struggle that affects the pocketbooks of millions and blends lasting policy differences with deep political mistrust.

Boehner expressed confidence the Republicans' narrow, so-called Plan B bill would pass the House on Thursday despite opposition from some conservative, anti-tax dissidents. The leadership worked to shore up the measure's chances late in the day by setting a vote on a companion bill to replace across-the-board cuts in the Pentagon and some domestic programs with targeted reductions elsewhere in the budget, an attempt to satisfy defense-minded lawmakers.

With Christmas approaching, Republicans also said they were hopeful the tax measure could quickly form the basis for a final bipartisan "fiscal cliff" compromise once it arrives in the Senate.

Democrats, in the majority in the Senate, gave no indication of their plans.

On paper, the two sides are relatively close to an agreement on major issues, each having offered concessions in an intensive round of talks that began late last week.

But political considerations are substantial, particularly for Republicans.

After two decades of resolutely opposing any tax increases, Boehner is seeking votes from fellow Republicans for legislation that tacitly lets rates rise on million-dollar income tax filers. The measure would raise revenue by slightly more than $300 billion over a decade than if all of the Bush-era tax cuts remained in effect.

But Boehner's office trumpeted another figure ? an estimate that claimed it would amount to a tax cut of nearly $4 trillion compared with what would happen if all those tax cuts were to expire as scheduled with the turn of the year.

Boehner won a letter of cramped support from anti-tax activist Grover Norquist during the day. Norquist's organization, Americans For Tax Reform, issued a statement saying it will not consider a vote for the bill a violation of a no-tax-increase pledge that many Republicans have signed.

But another conservative group came to an opposing conclusion. "Allowing a tax increase to hit a certain segment of Americans and small businesses is not a solution; it is a political ploy," the Heritage Foundation said in a statement.

As for the scheduled defense cuts, Rep. C.W. (Bill) Young of Florida, who heads the House panel with jurisdiction over the Pentagon's budget, said he is undecided how to vote on the legislation.

"This is not a game. This is real because so much of the sequester (spending cuts) would be defense ? half of it," he said. "I just don't think it's workable."

Rep. Tom Rooney of Florida, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, said he will vote for the legislation even if it leaves the defense cuts in place. He said if he didn't vote for a bill that prevents a tax increase for 99 percent of people "I'm not doing my job."

That appeared to be the hope of Boehner and the rest of the leadership, that by showing his rank and file is united behind the fallback bill, the speaker would be in a strong position to demand concessions from the White House in the broader endgame.

Democrats had their own issues, but so far, they have remained largely submerged as Republicans struggle.

Reps. Peter DeFazio of Oregon and Jim McDermott of Washington, both veteran liberals, announced their opposition to a provision that Obama is backing to slow the growth of cost-of-living benefits for Social Security and other benefit programs.

At the White House, Obama repeated that he is ready to agree to spending cuts that may cause distress among some fellow Democrats, but he saved his sharpest words for Republicans.

"Goodness, if this past week has done anything, it should just give us some perspective," he said in a reference to the shootings of school children in Connecticut.

Yet even as he implored Republicans to "take the deal," he made it clear he's open to more bargaining.

Asked whether he might be flexible on the level at which tax rates should rise, he said he wasn't going to bargain in public. He also addressed the issue of politics.

Speaking of Republicans, he said, "It is very hard for them to say yes to me. But at some point, they've got to take me out of it."

He added, "I'm often reminded when I speak to the Republican leadership that the majority of their caucus' membership come from districts that I lost. And so sometimes they may not see an incentive in cooperating with me, in part because they're more concerned about challenges from a tea party candidate, or challenges from the right, and cooperating with me may make them vulnerable."

Nor did Boehner slam the door on further compromises in his brief appearance before reporters. "Republicans continue to work toward avoiding the fiscal cliff," he said.

In the talks to date, Obama is now seeking $1.2 trillion in higher tax revenue, down from the $1.6 trillion he initially sought. He also has softened his demand for higher tax rates on household incomes so they would apply to incomes over $400,000 instead of the $250,000 he cited during his successful campaign for a new term.

He also has offered more than $800 billion in spending cuts over a decade, half of it from Medicare and Medicaid, $200 million farm and other benefit programs, $100 billion from defense and $100 billion from a broad swath of government accounts ranging from parks to transportation and education.

In a key concession to Republicans, the president also has agreed to slow the rise in cost-of-living-increases in Social Security and other benefit programs, at a savings estimated at about $130 billion over a decade.

By contrast, Boehner's most recent offer allowed for $1 trillion in higher taxes over a decade, with higher rates for annual incomes over $1 million. He's also seeking about $1.3 trillion in spending cuts.

The two sides disagree, too, over increases in the government's debt limit, which will soon need to be raised when borrowing reaches the current $16.4 trillion cap.

Also at issue are unemployment benefits, which are scheduled to expire for an estimated 2 million out-of-work Americans at year's end, and the prospect of reduced payments beginning Jan. 1 for doctors who care for Medicare patients.

Three Costly Mistakes Debt Collectors Should Avoid in 2013

John Rossman December 19, 2012 http://www.insidearm.com/opinion/three-costly-mistakes-debt-collectors-should-avoid-in-2013/

Here?s something we all know: 2013 will be unlike any other year in the history of debt collection in the United States. It is known. The most obvious reason is that the largest ARM companies in the country will be subject to federal examination for the first time ever. And that should probably be enough.

But there?s more.

In their latest episode of ARM industry legal podcast, The Debt Collection Drill, attorneys John Rossman and Mike Poncin discuss specific ways debt collectors can take to avoid costly mistakes in 2013. In addition to preparing for CFPB supervision (read Rossman?s article on that here), Rossman and Poncin talk about the appropriate way to accept checks by phone (hint: many companies may be doing it incorrectly) and little known licensing issues causing class action headaches.

Family friendly frugal meals ? Fishy pasta bake?. | The Diary of a ...

By Cass@frugalfamily, on December 17th, 2012

This week is my favourite week of the year ? we always have lots planned and everything just seems more exciting because we know that Christmas is so close. ?We do have something planned for every night this week so meal planning is going to be a bit manic but I?m going to stick with it because I want to have a little extra to spend on next weeks food budget ;-)

Monday ? School party for Miss Frugal and I have one of Master Frugal?s friends for tea so it?s going to be quick and easy for the kids. ?I have some chicken pieces in the freezer so I might try some homemade chicken nuggets with potato wedges and beans. ?Mr Frugal is at work until eight so I think I?ll be make fishy pasta bake ready for when he comes home as he?ll be shattered.

Tuesday ? This year I?ve made some amazing friends and every week we?ve been taking it in turns having tea with all the kids and I look forward to our little get together every week. ?There?s three of us with five children between us and tea is usually quick and easy ? something along the lines of pizza, garlic bread, fries or wedges, chicken nuggets. ?It?s not my turn this week so I have a night off cooking :-)

Wednesday ? We?re at a pantomime tonight but it?s a late start so we?ve got plenty of time for tea. ?Master Frugal has asked for Toad in the Hole (except he wants his toads out of the holes ? don?t ask) so we?ll have that with mash and veg I think.

Thursday ? I?m out tonight for tea and drinks with friends so nothing for the grown ups and I think I?ll do Macaroni cheese with and?broccoli?in it for the kids.

Friday ? Tea tonight with another amazing friend tonight - Jen from the madhouse and her lovely boys this time.

Saturday ? I think we?re going to the pictures on Saturday to see some sort of Christmas film, I?m not sure what else we?ll be doing but I?m hoping it involves Santa and mulled wine ;-) ?For tea, I think I?ll make a chilli in the slow cooker so I can pop it in in the morning and it?ll be ready whenever we want it.

Sunday ? This is the one day of the week I?m not looking forward to. ?Mr Frugal has his MRI scan mid afternoon and I think he?ll be too nervous to do much beforehand and I?ve no idea how he?ll feel after. ?It?s officially the start of Christmas though as it?s the first day we all have off together so I really hope he?s in and out so we can get on with Christmas. ?We?ll be having slow cooker brisket today when we get home from the hospital. ?We?l also be having our walk round the neighbourhood tonight on the hunt for the best Christmas lights so there?ll be hot chocolate, squirty cream and marshmallows later in the day.

Fishy pasta bake
250g dried pasta
2 tins condensed tomato soup
250ml milk
Fish ? I used 1 tin tuna and 2 cod fillets but prawns are lovely as is most fish.
Grated cheese to top it off

  1. Start cooking the pasta in lightly salted boiling water.
  2. While that?s cooking, gently heat the soup and the milk in a saucepan and if you have a third pair of hands you need to cook the fish fillets. ?I just pop mine in the oven to cook while the pasta?s cooking but you can cook it anyway you like.
  3. In an oven proof dish, add the cooked pasta and pour over the creamy tomato sauce.
  4. Flake the fish fillets into the dish, add your tuna, prawns and whatever other fish you?re using and if your family aren?t as fussy as mine you could also add some sweetcorn at this stage.
  5. Top with grated cheese and pop back in the oven until the cheese is bubbling.

Since we got involved with the Fish is the Dish campaign we?ve eaten a lot more fish which can only be good for us. ?We got a lovely delivery from them the other day containing a lovely fish cook book and some gorgeous fish ? thanks very much.

Dust-plumes power intercontinental microbial migrations

Along with pollutants from Asia, transpacific dust plumes deliver vast quantities of microbes to North America, according to a manuscript published online ahead of print in the journal Applied and Environmental Microbiology.

"We detected thousands of unique microbial species, many of which seem particularly well-suited for atmospheric transport," says first author David J. Smith, a graduate student at the University of Washington, Seattle. "We also detected archaea, a domain of life that has never before been sampled at high altitude. We are just starting to understand the consequences of long-range microbial transport."

"Over 70 million tons of Asian aerosolsmostly dustreach our continent every year," says Smith. "There could be thousands of microbes per gram of dust. Do the math. The number is staggering. Distant continents are essentially sneezing on each other."

Although the research is basic, Smith foresees value in understanding how bacteria survive at high altitudes during intercontinental journeys. For example, identifying the mechanisms for resisting ultraviolet radiation at altitude, which likely involve protecting and repairing DNA, could prove invaluable to biotechnology and medicine, says Smith. "It is difficult to predict specific breakthroughs and applications, but studying microbes in extreme environments has had practical benefit before," he says, mentioning discovery of a thermostable enzyme from microbes in the hot springs of Yellowstone National Park, which proved invaluable to Polymerase Chain Reaction. Additionally, developing predictive models of disease dispersal via the tradewinds "could be of tremendous value to farmers," says Smith.

The research took place at an observatory perched on the summit of a volcano in the Pacific Northwest, says Smith. "We could process huge volumes of air, 24/7, and capture enough biomass to analyze airborne microorganisms using molecular methods." Two major pollution events emanating from Asia during the sampling season of 2011 helped the team distinguish Asian expatriate microbes from locals, along with chemical and meteorological methods, says Smith.

The research was physically challenging. "Mt. Bachelor is a very snowy place and one of the windiest mountains in North America," says Smith. "Some summit days were an endurance marathon. Wearing latex gloves when it's 20 degrees below zero is not fun. But it was a worthwhile sacrifice for science, and I would happily do it again."

Conducting the research also changed how Smith views the sky. "Now when I look at the clouds, I see microbial sanctuaries," he says.

Results show the region will be hotter and wetter

From extreme drought to super storms, many wonder what the future holds for the climate of the eastern United States. A study conducted by researchers at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, does away with the guessing.

Results show the region will be hotter and wetter.

Joshua Fu, a civil and environmental engineering professor, and Yang Gao, a graduate research assistant, developed precise scales of cities which act as a climate crystal ball seeing high resolution climate changes almost 50 years into the future.

The study found that heat waves will become more severe in most regions of the eastern United States and, that both the Northeast and Southeast will see a drastic increase in precipitation.

The findings are published in the Nov. 6 edition of Environmental Research Letters.

Harnessing the supercomputing power of UT's Kraken and Oak Ridge National Laboratory's (ORNL) Jaguar (now Titan, the fastest in the world), the researchers combined high-resolution topography, land use information and climate modeling. Then they used dynamical downscaling to develop their climate model results. Dynamical downscaling allowed the researchers to develop climate scales as small as four square kilometers.

"Instead of studying regions, which is not useful when examining extreme weather, dynamical downscaling allows us to study small areas such as cities with a fine resolution," said Fu, who is also a professor within the UT-ORNL Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Education (CIRE).

The researchers evaluated extreme events along with daily maximum and minimum temperatures and daily precipitation. For the 23 states east of the Mississippi River, they analyzed the present-day climate from 2001 to 2004 and predicted the future climate from 2057 to 2059. This is the first study to predict heat waves for the top 20 cities in the eastern U.S. For example, Nashville will see a temperature rise of 3.21 degrees Celsius and Memphis will see a rise of 2.18 degrees Celsius.

In comparing present climate to future, the researchers found that heat waves will become more severe throughout the eastern part of the nation. The Northeast and eastern Midwest will experience a greater increase in heat waves than the Southeast, which will almost equalize the temperatures between the future North and current South.

"Currently, the mean heat wave duration is about four days in the Northeast and eastern Midwest and five days in the Southeast," said Fu. "By the end of the 2050s, the Northeast and eastern Midwest will be gaining on the Southeast by increasing two days."

In addition, the Northeast and eastern Midwest are likely to suffer from steeper increases in the severity of heat waves.

"While the Southeast has the highest intensity in heat waves, the northeast is likely to experience the highest increase," said Fu. "We are looking at temperature increases of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, with New York experiencing the highest hike."

Both the Northeast and Southeast will experience an increase of precipitation of 35 percent or more. Most coastal states will see the greatest increase, of about 150 millimeters a year. Taking into consideration heat waves and extreme precipitation, the Northeast shows the largest increases in precipitation. This suggests a greater risk of flooding.

"It is important that the nation take actions to mitigate the impact of climate change in the next several decades," said Fu. "These changes not only cost moneyabout a billion a year in the U.S.but they also cost lives."

(AP) ? Walk-on Alex Barlow made a spinning 6-foot jumper with 6.1 seconds left in overtime and Butler toppled No. 1 Indiana 88-86 Saturday in the Crossroads Classic.

Barlow had scored only 12 points all season. The Bulldogs (8-2) handed the Hoosiers their first loss and beat a top-ranked team for the first time in school history.

The Hoosiers (9-1) were led by Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller with 18 points each. Indiana had a chance to win it, but Jordan Hulls' half-court heave was off to the left.

Indiana rallied from a 71-64 deficit in the final 2 ? minutes to force overtime and led 84-80 with 2:12 to play. The Bulldogs charged back with two 3-pointers and won it with Barlow's short jumper.

Butler's Roosevelt Jones scored 16 points and matched his career-highs with 12 rebounds and six assists. He was one of three Butler players who fouled out.

Mental Health Care and Tedddy Bears: After Sandy Hook Operation ...

Operation Fuzzy Wuzzy IIGRANITE BAY -

Sometimes the smallest things make the biggest difference. Dede Bannister knows it.

?Because it felt like there wasn?t anything else I could do,? she said, while making her drop-off at Operation Fuzzy Wuzzy II.

Adam Johns knew it too. In 2004, when 186 school children were killed in a massacre in Belzan, Russia, Adam started the first Operation Fuzzy Wuzzy.

?He was impacted by that,? said his mom, Deborah Johns.

She and Adam?s brother are behind Operation Fuzzy Wuzzy?II. It?s an effort to send support, teddy bears and donations, to the families of Newtown, Connecticut.

They are doing it in Adam Johns? memory. He took his own life in March, 2011.

Deborah Johns still clutches the teddy bear someone gave her after Adam?s death. She says it help. But she says the real help would be to begin a real conversation about mental health in America.

Johns is convinced that if we treated mental health care like we do physical health care, her son and 27 people in Newtown, CT. would still be alive today.

?We have to take it out of the darkness and into the light. And work with it,? Johns said.

If you?d like to donate to Operation Fuzzy Wuzzy II, you can drop off stuffed animals or money to and Beach Hut Deli location, or contact Johns directly at this email: customerservice@p7clothing.com

Dell Has A New Platform As A Service That Actually Makes Sense

dellDell has a new platform as a service (PaaS) and it actually makes sense. The service is called Project Fast PaaS, part of the new Dell Cloud Labs, which also includes Project Sputnik, the Linux laptop for developers and Crowbar, and the?open-source cloud deployment framework that Dell originally created to support its “OpenStack- and?Hadoop-powered offerings.” FastPaaS and the new Dell Cloud Labs reflects a paradox that I felt all week at Dell World. While Fast PaaS represents the innovation happening at Dell, as with any big enterprise company, it is dependent on making big deals with high margins that serve the basic demands of large enterprises. On Tuesday, I moderated a think tank?discussion that unfortunately was stacked with Dell managers. One customer attended. To my fault, a few Dell managers took control of the conversation at certain points,?which?was unfortunate. But they did express some perspectives that reflect the real conflict at Dell these days. Michael Cot?, a former RedMonk analyst who is now Dell’s director of cloud strategy and special programs summed it up well in a blog post yesterday: IT faces a real conflict. It’s a time of rapid technology advancement. Customers want access to the latest and greatest but IT still needs to keep?everything?running, too.?They are expected to make sure the email works and be innovative, too. It’s an impossible mission. In Cot?’s?words: The mind set of keeping things stable a reliable (the five nines crowd) doesn?t fit with coming up with new stuff. Practices like Agile and the rapid delivery cycles in DevOps can help, but at some point, the two paths of ensuring stability and profiting from disruption are divergent enough that you can?t perfectly co-mingle them?and yet, that?s what we expect from the IT department. Fast PaaS is a great example of how Dell is seeking to be innovative in developing a unique strategy but cloaking it as a “solution.” It tells a good story about what Dell is trying to do with its cloud strategy. Dell does not want to be like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and offer a blank virtual machine. It wants to offer solutions. And I think the strategy works. Project Fast PaaS is built on Cloud Foundry, the open-source PaaS developed initially by VMware and now operating under an Apache license. The PaaS is on-premise — it’s private. Everything comes fully packaged. A developer fills in some forms that include

Apple iMac 21.5-Inch (Late 2012)

Though the Apple iMac 21.5-inch (Late 2012) ($1,299 list) is technically Apple's entry-level all-in-one desktop, that price point puts it in more in line with midrange all-in-one desktop PCs (Midrange all-in-ones usually retail for between $899 and $1,499). Many, including a notable example from the largest PC maker in the world, mimic the iMac's industrial design. If you're not too keen on joining the Windows 8 touch-screen PC crowd, the iMac is a perfect alternative. With a bit of extra work, it will even run the Windows XP/7 programs you want to continue to use. With a new slimmer profile and updated components, the 21.5-inch iMac continues to be a lust object, and regains its status as our Editors' Choice for midrange all-in-one desktops.

Design and Features
The new 21.5-inch iMac is a lot slimmer than its predecessor, thanks to the elimination of the optical drive (the DVD based SuperDrive), as well as new manufacturing techniques like "friction-stir welding." The result is an aluminum chassis that is 5mm thick at the edges, though the chassis still bows out in the middle near where the stand connects to the system. It's not technically a unibody chassis, but it still manages to look and function like one.

While there are ways to get into the system for intrepid technicians, the iMac is essentially a sealed system to end-users, so make sure you configure it for the future as well as the present. The system can handle up to 16GB of memory and use the innovative Fusion Drive (if you choose the more expensive 2.9GHz CPU version of the 21.5-inch iMac).

The system we reviewed is the $1,299 base model available off the shelf at Apple Stores and other big box stores. Aside from the thinner profile, the system still looks like the previous-generation Apple iMac 21.5-inch (Thunderbolt) , especially from the front. It has a similar 21.5-inch, 1,920-by-1,080 resolution LED backlit IPS screen, but Apple has tamed stray reflections a bit with a combination of anti-glare coatings and tighter construction. In the back, you'll find the system's four USB 3.0 ports, two Thunderbolt ports, Ethernet, a Kensington lock port, and a SDXC slot. The second Thunderbolt port replaces the FireWire 800 port that was on the last iteration of the iMac.

The SD slot was moved to the back from the side, where it was more convenient to use, but that is the price of slimness. As with the previous 21.5-inch iMac, you can use the Thunderbolt port as an expansion port for DisplayPort, HDMI, VGA, USB, and FireWire, but you'll have to get the adapter(s) separately.

The iMac comes with a wireless keyboard and Magic Mouse, though a Magic Trackpad is available as a no-cost substitution for built-to-order systems. If you want both, be prepared to shell out an extra $69 or pick up the Trackpad after your purchase. The included mouse and keyboard are the same standard Bluetooth-based ones that Apple has been using for years. While this is great if you're used to their feel, some folks don't like the way the height-challenged Magic Mouse feels in hand. You can of course hook up a third-party keyboard and mouse set to one of the USB ports.

The power cord feeds an internal power supply, so you won't have to use an external power brick like you would for the Apple Mac mini or the Vizio 24-Inch All-in-One (CA24T-A4). This keeps setup to a minimum, just plug in the power cord, power on, go through the initial setup, and you'll be up and running in minutes. The system's 1TB hard drive is a "slower" 5,400rpm drive, but it's certainly fast enough for the multimedia hobbyist, as seen in the benchmark numbers below. There's plenty of space on the hard drive, since the only thing on it is OS X (10.8 Mountain Lion) and iLife. You'll need a $79 external SuperDrive if you still have programs on CD or DVD, or you can buy new ones from Apple's App Store online. The iMac comes with Boot Camp, a Windows compatible environment, where your iMac runs Windows (XP and above) seamlessly. You'll need your own copy of Windows to set up Boot Camp.

The iMac was as quiet as a mouse when in use: Even during CPU-heavy tasks we couldn't hear the system's case fans over the ambient noise in PC Labs. We did enjoy listening to the iMac's new speaker setup. It pumps out a good amount of quality sound, whether we were listening to music or watching a movie. Thought the screen isn't touch sensitive, OS X doesn't require a touch screen for daily operation, unlike the Windows 8 operating system found on systems like the Asus ET2300INTI-B022K.

There are hints to OS X's possible touch future with full-screen mode and the Launchpad application, but for the time being touch screens on a Mac are totally superfluous. Like other Macs, the iMac isn't compatible with WiDi, but you can use an Apple TV to mirror the iMac's screen on a HDTV.

Performance
Apple iMac 21.5-inch (Late 2012) The iMac 21.5-inch (Late 2012) base model comes with a third-generation Intel Core i5 processor, discrete Nvidia GeForce GT 640M graphics, that 1TB hard drive, 8GB of DDR3 memory, and other future looking technology like Thunderbolt and USB 3.0. The system's components certainly help it out on multimedia tasks like Handbrake (video encoding) and Photoshop CS6, where the iMac comes out ahead of similarly priced systems like the Vizio CA24T-A4 and remains competitive with the ostensibly faster-clocked processor in the Asus ET2300INTI-B022K.

The iMac also shows very good performance on the Heaven gaming benchmark test. While slow when all the quality and resolution sliders are turned up, the iMac shows a quite playable 30 fps on the middle quality Heaven test. You should certainly be able to handle fairly strenuous graphics tasks and gaming on the new iMac. This would be a good system for the rank and file graphics or scientific workers in your organization, and is certainly enough for the university bound student in your life.

If you're currently a Mac user, the Apple iMac 21.5-inch (Late 2012) svelte gives you everything you'd expect from a new Mac desktop. Our last Editors' Choice for mid-range all-in-one PCs was the Asus ET2701INKI-B046C. While that system remains a good choice if you are looking to enjoy your Blu-ray movie collection, the iMac surpasses it as a desktop to do real work on. The best is a moving target, and for now that bull's eye rests on the Apple iMac 21.5-inch (Late 2012), our Editors' Choice for midrange all in one desktops.

Schwarzenegger: 'I'll be back' ... for sex at 65

Carolco Pictures Inc. / Zuma Press file

Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Terminator.

By Courtney Hazlett, TODAY

At 65, Arnold Schwarzenegger is older and wiser, and sharing some of the lessons he's learned throughout his life in the January "Meaning of Life" issue of Esquire magazine.

One lesson: stick to the job you know. He recalls criticizing the writing and one of the most iconic phrases in "The Terminator," saying: ?I didn?t get it at first. 'I'll be back.' What the f-- is 'I'll'??'I will be back' sounded much stronger in my mind. So I argued with (writer/director) Jim Cameron.?And he said, 'Look, Arnold, I don?t tell you how to act.?Please don?t tell me how to write.'"

The former governator concedes that Cameron knew what he was doing.

"After I saw it in the movie, I was so thankful to Cameron. That was a good lesson to learn. If someone is a good writer, stick to the script."

Schwarzenegger also talks about how sex has changed over the years. "When you get older, sex may change a bit," he told the magazine. "When you?re 65, it's not exactly the same as when you were 25. But that doesn?t mean it's over. It's never over."

Good to know. For the complete interview, click here.

Video marketing is an excellent way to get the word out about your business and really get noticed. When you add an engaging video you give a personal touch to your customers and they are more willing to make purchases from you. Enticing titles and unusual graphics can attract potential customers and may lead to increased sales.

TIP! If your internet marketing plan includes analytics, you should already be familiar with your top-performing products. Use your most profitable products as a way to generate additional sales.

Putting out a press release is a great way to increase traffic for internet marketing. A press release that informs people in a clear and concise manner is something that many sites online would publish, depending on the market. This is a quick and easy way to raise your visibility.

Getting backlinks (links from other sites to yours) is an important part of Online marketing. You should make it easy for other webmasters to do this by putting a prominent ?Link to Us? option on your site. An advertising badge or a linking badge lets people know that it?s fairly easy to work with you or to link with you. This is something that?s mutually beneficial for you and anyone else out there with a website.

TIP! Placing user polls next to any content in your website will show your customers how the majority feels about it. If you use the results you will be able to tell what your users want to see, and allow them to be involved in the decision making process.

Try to avoid spending too much on advertising. Like many other business expenditures, advertising is subject to the law of diminishing returns. After a certain point, further spending provides little benefit. When investing, you need to be sure that you?re going to get what need from it. That is why advertising using banners is a wise investment.

Encourage your customers to interact with each other, for instance, by adding a message board or a chat room to your site. People will identify with your brand if they can discuss things they enjoy with people who have similar interests. It is natural for people to want to be part of a group, and if you give them that feeling, they are more likely to return to your site.

Do you have a company slogan or a statement of purpose? If so, list it in a prominent place on your website. This helps to keep your site professional while showing what you are all about. This will shine a great big light on exactly what you are selling.

If you don?t devote your full attention to all of your social media profiles it will be a detriment to your company. Many people look at inactive profiles as spam.

TIP! When planning your Internet marketing strategies, use a variety of techniques and approaches and don?t put all your effort into one narrow pathway. This is vital for this kind of business, income can be slow in the beginning and may not ever be steady.

Understanding your competition is a key to successful Internet promotion. If you are aware of what they are selling and know you can do something a bit better, then you can be very profitable and surpass them in sales. This is crucial to any Web marketing plan.

People focus on website URLs. Make sure your website is easy to remember so that a customer will be able to quickly and easily access it whenever they desire. When possible, the site name should incorporate your business?s name Of course customers can search for you on Google, but it is much better if they can type an easy-to-remember address into their browser.

Make use of the websites that list freebies and giveaways by listing what you are offering on these sites. Send any free e-zines to specialized directories that offer these services online. There are many resources to get free e-zines, e-books and other free infomation.
